THE PRESIDENTAL ELECTION

Let me start this post off by saying I have always considered myself a republician but this year as I have watched the Presidental debates I have been more drawn to Obama. I won't go into all of the things that I have like about him but just say that I was almost sure that I was going to vote for him this election. Then I saw this clip on my friend Katherine's blog and I read the ensign article for this month. I don't think it is a coincidence that they talk about the church's stance on abortion and proposition 8 in the Ensign this month right before the election. Although I have been frusturated and confused this election I know now that despite all of the things that I feel are not right with Mcain I have to give him my vote because of my moral views on Proposition 8 and abortion. It is scarey and tricky when politicians are so convincing and suck you in. It is so hard when you aren't sure that you believe what either canidate is saying. These are hard times that we live in. We have so many concerns...the economy, gas prices, jobs, education, the war. But I feel confident now that I must stick to my core values of pro life and the sanctitiy of marriage to determine which way to vote. I hope you enjoy this video! I am obviously not Catholic but this video was put out by the catholic church and I really felt they did a great job with this video and I think it will speak to all Christains alike. I was really touched by this video and I felt the spirit as I watched it.

I'm glad you came to your senses! I don't think McCain is the best for the republican party, but there is no way I would vote for Obama who has helped terrorists and is muslim himself.

Thanks for your comments about this upcoming election. I too have really struggled with it this year for some reason. Obama is defintely a very charismatic person and to tell you the truth I'd much rather look at and listen to him over the next 4 years than McCain. But I have to say I really don't know much about his beliefs and views. Unfortunately I don't know much more about McCain. The Catholic video that you posted has really made me think this afternoon. I went and read the article in the Ensign about abortion too because I have even had mixed feelings about that.
McCain will win in Utah with or without my vote so it is easy to feel like it doesn't really matter, but now I see that either way it is important to go and vote my conscience.
Check out selectsmart.com. There is a survey there that you can take that tells you which candidate you agree with more often. It is pretty interesting.

I have voted with the Republicans in the past but have been very tempted to vote for Obama this election. I have felt so torn. I have really tried to do my research on the candidates and still can't decide who I should vote for. After watching this video, it helps you realize some things are black and white issues (not a reference to race). I have now decided to vote McCain.

Oh my... Ben and I have had this same debate but I DO have to say that we MUST keep our heels planted with WHOM ever is going to support our (LDS) conservative fundamentals and even thought neither candidate is my favorite I have to say McCain will stand for more of what I agree with and side on more conservative issues. Newt asks some intriguing questions here.

I loved the video, we really are so lucky and blessed to be in a country where we have the right to a vote, and even though neither may be exactly what we want, I think we really do have to choose a candidate based on the most important issues.

Trista!!!! I'm so glad I found you. I saw a comment on Brooke's blog and thought maybe it was you! How are things going? Your kids are super cute and you are still as beautiful as ever. I will have to find some way to contact you.

Loved your thoughts here. I am with you all the way. I don't like John McCain, but he seems to be the less of two evils.

Thanks for sharing that video...I might have to steal it and put it on my blog. This election is the most important one in history and it's so crucial we get the word out.

In my humble opinion McCain is the lesser of the two evils. Life would be frightening with Obama in the White House.

I am voting for McCain.

I am a HUGE McCain supporter for many reasons. I haven't considered voting for Obama at all but I wanted to clarify that he is not a muslim. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing, but he is christian. I think he is actually a really good guy, I just don't agree with his positions on the issues that are important to me and the future of our country.

That was awesome. This election scares me, probably because I kind of have a glimpse of the outcome. We need McCain!

Please do not forget that you all live in Utah and your vote doesn't count or matter at all. The state's republican party has re-drawn the districts so there will never be a balanced vote (righty darn tootin! thank goodness! we don't need another voice in this state besides the church!) In the last election Utah was the highest state in the union for Bush. So you can all rest assured, all of Utah's 5 votes will go the republicans just like the last 50 years. If you're confused on what I am saying please Google "Electoral College".

Oh man. I was going to be so proud of you for voting Obama! McCain is not a good man, I'll have to talk to you about him sometime before the election. If our religion plays into your vote McCain is totally anti-Mormon and handed out materials when he was running against Romney. I lean left EXCEPT for abortion but at the same time abortion is not a black and white issue. If Palin got her way there would be no choice whatsoever and that is scary when you consider rape, incest, and a mother's life in danger. Gotta give my vote to Obama! McCain is WAY too old to be president, he'll die, and then crazy Palin will be our president! Could you imagine that?! And I am dying over the first comment on this post! Hilarious. People are so ignorant.

P.S. Obama/Biden do not support gay marriage they just believe that gays should have a lot of the civil rights that we do.

Hello, I have to agree with the comments on typical Mormon. Are we not so lucky we have our free agency to choose for ourselves who we believe will lead this country the best. We need to remember that what ever party we belong to, we need to respect the other party's stand. There is good in both. But Obama has my vote. I have been around many years and I know that when there is a Democratic in office I as an individual middle class citizen do better financially. Thank you for your post. I enjoyed reading what people in Utah think of the up coming election. I also enjoyed how people are really involved. I voted early I encourage all of you who can to do so. I voted Thursday and I waited 20 minutes. So vote early to avoid the crowds. But if you can't vote early just vote!!!!
